Do eyelash extensions damage my natural lashes?
Eyelash extensions that are properly applied do not harm your natural lashes. Lash extensions that are applied with proper isolation and with the appropriate weight for your natural lashes will not harm your lashes. A certified lash artist will be able to look at your lashes, have a mini consultation, and tailor extensions for best fit to avoid any damage.

How long does the process take?
A full set application could take anywhere between 1.5hrs to 3.5hrs with the average being about 2hrs. Refill appointments can vary between 45-75 mins depending on retention and style. A certified, quality lash tech will take their time to perfect the desired look and to ensure the integrity and safety of your eyelashes and eye area. Never rush your lash artist as quality takes time and no tech enjoys being rushed. Make sure to allocate time for your appointment. Lay down, relax, take a nap and wake up to stunning lashes!
Can anyone get eyelash extensions?
Sadly, no. Eyelash extensions can only be placed on healthy eyelashes.
Extensions are not recommended for individuals that suffer from brittle lashes or hair-loss conditions, sensitivities or allergies.
Some reasons as to why eyelash extensions aren't a great fit:
- Lack of natural lash hairs
- Poor natural lash health
- Alopecia
- Trichotillomania
- Chemotherapy hair-loss
- Allergies to adhesive
- Mechanical damage (curlers, scizzors)
- Damaged natural lashes (previous poor lash application)
- Eye infections (must be cleared by doctor prior to application)
- Thyroid medication (may affect retention)
Prior to Application, DESXILASHPRO will carefully analyze your natural lashes during a mini consultation to ensure that eyelash extensions are the right fit. Be sure to voice any concerns that you may have during the consultation.

How much do eyelash extensions costs?
Cost varies depending on location, technician and the desired look. At DESXILASHPRO the price list ranges from $140 for a Classic Set to $200 for a Mega-Volume Set. Eyelash extensions are a luxury service; always seek a technician that invests in quality products and education, even though it may increase the cost of service. Improper application and low-quality products can harm your natural eyelashes and eye area.
How long should I wait before getting my lashes wet?
It is best to confirm with your lash tech as adhesives vary in curing time and in some cases no wait times are needed. However, most lash tech's will recommend waiting 24-hrs before getting your lashes wet. I typically advise my client's to wait the 24hr period for best results, and to follow their aftercare instructions.
Can I shower, swim, exercise, use a steam room or go to the spa with extensions?
Yes, definitely! After the 24hr period, you are able to participate in your favourite activities; extensions shouldn't stop you from getting your sweat and relaxation on, but keep in mind that refills may be needed more frequently as sweat, natural oils and steam can affect your adhesive.
Swimming Tip:
Chlorine can be harsh and cause eye irritation; saltwater is better, but drying! Make sure to thoroughly cleanse your lashes afterwards. Avoid rubbing with a towel, always pat to dry or use a blowdryer (on the cold setting).

How often should I get my lashes refilled?
It is recommended to schedule refills every 2-3 weeks to maintain lashes. Refills require a 40% retention and must be done within 4 weeks. Less than 40% retention or over 4 weeks will be considered a full set as extensions grow out and will need to be removed.
How long do eyelash extensions last?
A full set will last as long as your natural lash life cycle. Extensions are attached to the lash itself, therefore, they will follow your natural growth cycle, which ranges between 4-6 weeks. It is estimated that the average individual sheds between 2-5 lashes daily. To extend the life of your extensions, follow the recommended aftercare instructions. Use a lash cleanser/conditioner with a small soft-bristle brush (you may use a clean fluffy eyeshadow brush) to thoroughly cleanse your lashes. Rinse and pat to dry or use a blowdryer (on the cold setting). Gently comb through your lashes with a dry spoolie brush daily. Schedule a refill every 2-3 weeks to fill in any sparse areas and to maintain your desired look.
Can I wear makeup or mascara?
Yes, makeup can be worn with extensions, but be cautious as to how and which makeup you are applying. Makeup can affect your lash retention and cause your extensions to look dull and damaged over time. Mascara is not recommended. Mascara will damage extensions and natural lashes as it tugs and sticks to the extensions causing premature shedding. Make sure to use oil-free products and thoroughly cleanse your extensions.
There are extension-safe products and mascaras available in the market. Be sure to always do your own research prior to purchasing/applying.

What can I expect to happen during my appointment?
Eyes will be closed for the duration of the application. Appointment will typically begin with a mini consultation where the technician will analyze the natural lashes and discuss the client's lash health and the desired look. The eye area will be gently cleansed to prep the area and under eye pads/tape will be applied to secure the bottom lashes. This will ease in the ability to differentiate between the top and bottom lashes once eyes are closed. Lash mapping/styling will be decided and any adjustments will be made at this time. Once all has been decided, lashing will begin and eyes must remain closed until application is complete, and the lash artist has stated that it is now safe to open your eyes.
How do I care for my extensions?
Avoid getting your lashes wet for 24-hrs or until the adhesive is fully cured (ask your technician). Care for your lashes with daily cleanses and brushing-- clean, healthy lashes last longer and reduce the risk of infection/irritation. Be gentle with your lashes, don't curl them, pick, pluck or rub, and avoid mascara. Limit touching extensions and any oil-based products. Consider sleeping on your back instead of your stomach as this can cause friction from rubbing against your pillow all night while you sleep, causing premature shedding.
Take caution when dealing with ovens and bbqs as extreme heat can singe and burn your extensions.

Can I wear contacts with eyelash extensions?
Yes, contacts are typically safe to wear with eyelash extensions. However, it is not recommended to wear contacts during application, especially with client's who have highly sensitive eyes. Contacts may be immediately placed back after your service is complete.
What is the difference between eyelash extensions and a lash lift?
A lash lift is a safe chemical perm that enhances your natural curl, lifts and darkens (with tint) lashes. There are no synthetic fibers attached to your natural lashes. Lash lifts will need to be completed between 4-5 weeks depending on your natural growth cycle (how often you shed, makeup use, etc.).
